Copper Book "Passages"

This book was inspired by the colors copper and turquoise and copper foil and mesh. As usual, I discovered its title in the finished pages. I used a copper embellishment on the cover which was too heavy for the copper foil, so I made a polymer clay frame to strengthen the page. I pressed a texture stamp into the clay before I baked it then smudged turquoise paint over it after it was cool.

I used a digital print that I transferred to printmaking paper for the left hand side. The image on the right side was centered so that her face appears in the window on the cover. I used random text including the word "Nova" and a bright red rose to finish the page.

These pages are both copper foil that were prepared by dipping them in Liver of Sulfur then painting them with turquoise paint. I made the pocket on the right hand side from copper mesh dabbed with turquoise paint and then set onto the page with metal eyelets. I added vintage travel images and tags in the pocket.

These pages are also both copper. I punched holes around the edges of the right hand side page and embroidered the edge with copper wire and beads. This page was also stamped with black permanent ink for embellishment. A vintage travel poster on the left hand page was framed by a piece of copper foil with its edges folded down to hold the print.

The left side page is the reverse side of the above page with the metallic embroidery. The right hand page is made from a sheet of copper foil that was treated with Liver of Sulfur with the edges folded over to frame the image. A piece of mica was laid into the frame and faux postage stamps were used on the photo to embellish it.

These pages are some of my favorite images of women. The image on the right was printed on glossy photo paper and then transferred to print making paper with water and then coated with hot wax. The Venus Rising image was printed onto glossy photo paper and embellished with the Four of Hearts.

These images are both digital collages that I printed onto glossy photo paper and transferred to print making paper with water. I embellished these pages with stamps as they both suggest travel to me.

The left hand page image is a digital collage that I printed on glossy photo paper and transferred to print making paper with water. For the right hand page, I used tissue paper that I got from a store where I bought a tile. I collaged additional images onto the page and used stamps to embellishment it.

The left hand page image is a digital collage that I printed on glossy photo paper and transferred to print making paper with water. The right hand side image is a vintage travel poster for Western Australia that I crumpled up and then rubbed brown ink over the folds to age it. I stamped the metal page with a rubber stamp and added a tin butterfly and measuring tape to the edge.

The is the inside back cover. I cut a window in the back page to allow the profile of the man to appear in it when the book is closed. I added a stamped piece of polymer clay to the right hand page to embellish it and finished it with postage stamps.

This is the back cover of the book as it appears closed with the window showing the man from the preceding page. I used print making paper to stamp images onto then dabbed permanent ink to smudge the colors.
